AP Calculus AB and BC (QAR)
This challenging and demanding course emphasizes a
mulitrepresentational approach to calculus with concepts,
results, and problems being expressed graphically, numerically,
analytically, and verbally. Topics covered include: analysis
of graphs, limits of functions, asymptotic and unbounded
behavior, continuity, derivativies, integrals and their applications,
the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, techniques and
applications of antidifferentiation, parametric, polar, and vector
functions, and polynomial approximations and series.
Grades: 12
Prerequisite: The College Board recommends that before
studying calculus, all students should complete four years of
secondary mathematics designed for college-bound students:
courses in which they study algebra, geometry, trigonometric,
inverse trigonometric, and piecewise defi ned. In particular,
before studying calculus, students must be familiar with the
properties of functions, the algebra of functions and the graphs
of functions. Students must also understand the language of
functions and know the values of the trigonometric functions
of the numbers 0,π/6, π/4, π/3, π/2 and their multiples.
