Life Saving/Advanced Health
This class provides instruction to those wishing to obtain
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Swim Program
certification. Students enrolling in this course should be
proficient at the front crawl with appropriate breathing
strategies, breast stroke, and side stroke. Proof of
completion of level 5 swimming lessons or the ability to test
out of those skills is necessary. Students learn rescue
procedures in and out of the water, CPR for the Professional
Rescuer, and First Aid to include appropriate treatment for a
victim of spinal injury. The course is offered in
cooperation with Hays Recreation Commission. Participants
must attend all sessions to become certified. The second 9
weeks of this course is advanced health. Numerous current
and relevant health topics will be covered.
