Scientific Research & Design

In the Scientific Research and Design course, students conceive, design and complete a project using scientific inquiry and experimentation methodologies. Emphasis is placed on safety issues, research protocols, controlling and/or manipulating variables, data analysis, and communicating the project and its outcome(s). Each student is required to participate in an instructorsanctioned Science Fair plus one other event such as the following: Science Bowl, Science Olympiad, EcoMeet, Junior Academy of Science, or Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. The class is a science elective for 9-12 grade students. Replacement costs for items broken by student will be charged. Science Olympiad participants are strongly encouraged to enroll in this class.


Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12
Year: 1/2 or 1 credit (students may enroll for the fall semester or for all year)
Prerequisites: Instructor approval required
Projects: Cost of individual projects will be the responsiblity of the student. The total cost of the project must be paid before construction can begin.
