Modern American History deals with the period beginning with
America’s second century from 1877. This course begins with
the settlement of the West, the industrialization of the United
States, and the growth of the U.S. as a world power. The United
States’ involvement in two world wars and the rise of superpower
confrontations in the Cold War highlight the 20th century
history of the nation. The role of the U.S. as a world leader is
examined in the context of Vietnam and into the 21st century.
