HHS boys' cross country wins again

McPHERSON -- The Hays High School boys' cross country team won its third meet in four tries this season, and the Indian girls took third at Thursday's McPherson Invitational.
The HHS boys were paced by junior Derek Drees, who finished third in 18 minutes, 7 seconds. Other medalists for HHS were junior Josh Brungardt, sixth in 18:27; senior Dallas Kaiser, eighth in 18:45; sophomore Landon Munsch, ninth in 18:47.
Also for the HHS boys: senior Jake Nelson was 16th in 19:05; sophomore Austin Chambers was 17th in 19:07; sophomore Kendall Kandt was 28th in 19:40.
HHS won with 42 points. McPherson was second with 65 points.
The Hays High girls were led by junior April Johnson, who finished fifth in 17:21. Also medaling for the Indians was freshman Summer Smith, who was ninth in 17:41.
Also for the HHS girls: sophomore Bailee Leiker was 16th in 18:02; freshman Jenna Luebbers was 17th in 18:03; sophomore Shelby Matlock was 18th in 18:09; sophomore Reagan Kaiser was 20th in 18:17.
Buhler won with 32 points, followed by Salina South with 45 and Hays High with 65.
