Conference honors Hays High soccer girls

Seven members of the record-setting Hays High School girls' soccer team have been honored by the Western Athletic Conference.
Making the all-WAC first team is senior forward Betsy Dreiling, junior forward Kelsey Hedlund and junior midfielder/forward Elisha Schultz.
Receiving honorable mention recognition was senior goalkeeper Lindsey Dinkel, senior outside midfielder Kiley Johansen, junior defender Jennifer David and sophomore forward Jessie Steffen.
Hedlund scored 13 goals, tying the program's record for a single season. Dreiling and Schultz each scored eight goals, second-most on the team. HHS scored a record 42 goals this spring.
Dinkel was in goal for nine shutouts, tying the record for most clean sheets in a single season. HHS allowed 21 goals, second-fewest in program history.
David anchored the back line on that Indian defense, while Johansen scored three goals and distributed the ball to start the attack for the HHS forwards. Steffen scored six goals despite missing five games with an injury.
Hays High finished the year 14-5, the most wins in program history.
