- Click "Start"
- Type "printers"
- Click on "Printers" program
- Click "Add a Printer"
a. If it is USB Printer select "Add a Local Printer"
b. If it is a Network Printer then selct "Add a network,wireless, or Bluethooth Printer"
- Select the desired printer from a list and click "Next" (Skip to Step 11)
- If the printer is not displayed in the list, click "The printer I want isn't listed"
- Make sure the first option "Find a Printer in the directory" is selected and click next
- Click "Find Now" or you may narrow your search results by entering the name of your school (HHS, FMS, RES, Washington, Wilson, RAC, etc.) and clikcing the "Find Now" button.
- Highlight the desired Printer and click "OK"
- It should say "Connecting to Printer on Srvr1.internal.usd489.com" (this may take a minute)
(Note: If the printer still does not show in the list, the printer might not be setup on the network. Please contact your building technician.)
- Click "Next"
- If desired check "Set as default printer"
- Click "Finish"

Q: Does USD 489 have a spam filter?
USD 489 has a spam filter installed to miniamize the amout of spam that you have to deal with in your inbox. Each email message must pass as may as 19 tests before it is delivered to your inbox. On average, 80-90% of the email received is classified as spam and blocked. (approximately 41,000 messages everday) Even with all the tests each message goes through, some spam will manage to slip though and show up in your inbox.
Q: I receive sapm in my inbox. Should I forward it to someone?
A: You may forward it to spam@usd489.com. Any emails forwarded to this address is reviewed and analyzed. As a result, the smtp filter's rules are changed to help prevent similar messages from coming through again.
Q: I have some friends that are unable to send me email. Can their email address be added to a white list?
A: You have the ability to manage your own white list and quarantine. You can login to http://spam.usd489.com/spamconsole using the same username and password you use for your email. From here you can add email addresses to your safe senders or your blocked senders lists. You can also unblock a message that was blocked by the filter. If you would like to receive an email every morning with a summary of your blocked messages, pelase send an email to jbitikofer@usd489.com requesting to receieve a daliy spam summary.
Q: I am confused about what my email address is. Is it @usd489.com, @hayus489.k12.ks.us, or @hayshighindians.com?
A: Any of the above combonations will work but it is recommended that you have email sent to at username@usd489.com. In addtion, by default any email that you send will come from username@usd489.com
Q: Who should I contact if I'm having problems receiving email from certain addresses?

How do I eject/safely remove a USB drive?
It is strongly recommended in Windows Vista that you ALWAYS safely remove devices before unplugging them from your computer. Unsafe device remove may result in loss or corruption of data on the device.
To safely remove devices please do the following:
Single left-click on the icon with green check in toolbar. (See Figure below)
Click on the device that you would like to eject/remove.

How can I increase my battery usage?
Right-click on the battery icon in the lower right of the task bar.
Choose Power Options.
In the window that appears, click on Power Saver and then Change Plan Settings.
In the window that appears, click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
Click on the + next to Processor power management and change the percentages to 100%.
Optional: If you’re having connection problems, you can change a setting while you’re in the Advanced Power settings window. Scroll up to wireless Adapter Settings and click on the + sign. Change the Power Saving Mode to Maximum Performance.

It is the USD 489 district policy to have staff passwords more than180 days expire. If you get this message it is a warning that your password will be expiring soon. I change my password but I can't login to my computer with the new password?
When you change your password tool it may take up to an hour for the new password to be replicated to your computer. Restarting your computer should force the new password to be applied to your computer. If you take your laptop home before the password is replicated you'll have to login using your old password until the settings update.
