Making Sense of Temperatures

The temperatures used in MyNASAdata are in Kelvin, a temperature scale often used in science. Here in the United States, though, we're used to temperatures being expressed in degrees Fahrenheit, or oF.

To get an idea of what these Kelvin temperatures "feel like," you can convert them into Fahrenheit by following the steps below.

For example, 320K is the warmest temperature on the scale. Here’s how to convert it into oF:

Question 1: The lowest temperature on the scale is 205K. What is that temperature in oF?

Question 2: Your outdoor thermometer shows a reading of 273K. Should you wear shorts or a coat?
